Dr Sibusiso MKWANANZI

Dr. Sibusiso Mkwananzi is a Demographer and Senior Researcher at the Institute of Gender Studies, UNISA with fourteen years of consultancy experience in health and social research. She is a qualified Dentist and Demographer holding a PhD in Demography and Population Studies, a Masters in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and postgraduate qualifications in public policy and analysis, gender studies, project management, marketing management, and employee health and wellness as well as an undergraduate degree in Dentistry. Dr. Mkwananzi's research, together with her scholarly publications has positioned her as a quantitative expert in health, gender and women studies. Her other research interests include the quantitative investigation of the nexus of health and social phenomena, the application of quantitative research methods to contextual analysis, the health of vulnerable populations as well as social development. Additionally, Dr. Mkwananzi has vast experience in public health, statistical analysis, policy analysis and advocacy as well as youth development.

She is a recipient of the National Research Foundation’s Thuthuka Post-PhD Grant, a fellow of the South African Humanities Deans' Association (SAHUDA) and a previous recipient of the NRF Innovation and Scarce Skills Fellowship. Her current focus encompasses research in COVID-19 and women’s health, reproductive and health justice as well as investigating the patterns of SRHR, violence and sexual violence as gender power phenomena.
