Jarrad is a qualified electrical engineer with Ph.D. from WITS University. He is also a registered Professional Engineer (PrEng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). He is a member of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE), Counseil International des Grands Réseaux Electriques (CIGRE) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He has extensive energy sector experience in 11 African countries.

He is currently based at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) Energy Centre in Pretoria as a Principal Engineer predominantly involved energy systems operations and planning, sector-coupling, system stability, network planning, resource forecasting, storage and enabling market arrangements.
